Controlled Parking

Information about controlled parking in the Municipality of Athens

The Municipality of Athens Controlled Parking System helps manage parking efficiently in the busiest areas of the city, ensuring greater availability for residents and visitors and supporting sustainable mobility.

The system covers 11 visitor parking zones and operates Monday to Friday 09:00–21:00 and Saturday 09:00–16:00. No parking charges apply on Sundays or public holidays. Parking duration ranges from 30 to 180 minutes, with charges based on the length of stay. After 3 hours, there is a 10-minute interval during which a new parking ticket cannot be purchased for the same space/zone.

Vehicles displaying a disabled parking permit may park in visitor spaces free of charge at all times. Electric vehicles may also park free of charge, for a maximum of 180 minutes.

The Municipality of Athens Controlled Parking System has four main categories of parking spaces: visitors, permanent residents, special uses and two-wheelers.

– 5,177 resident vehicle spaces

– 3,463 visitor spaces

– 1,604 two-wheeler spaces

– 1,000 designated spaces for people with disabilities

These zones include distinct categories of spaces, clearly signed and governed by different rules:

  • permanent residents: P70 “Ρ-Κάτοικοι” (Residents) signs and indicative blue road markings,
  • visitors: P69 “Ρ-Με πληρωμή” (Paid parking) signs and indicative white road markings,
  • special uses and professional needs: P40 “Απαγορεύεται η στάση και η στάθμευση. Εξ/νται οχήματα…” (No stopping or parking. Except designated vehicles…) signs and indicative yellow road markings.

Resident spaces and special-category spaces, such as those for people with disabilities, are controlled 24 hours a day, all year round, with no time limit, in accordance with the relevant permits.
